I found this book to be vaulable and very helpful to those who are dealing with depression as well as professionals who treat people with depression. I believe professionals can use this book as the textbook to start and facilitate a psycho-educational group on depression.

Bob Edlestein, LMFT, MFT

Ms. Maschio has, in my opinion, made a real contribution in this dark area and focused light on an overlooked and unexpected source of help: one's own 'self-start' button."

Jack Seaton

"This is the most practical self-help book for personal development that I have encountered in my nearly 60 years. The procedures, exercises, and the many opportunities for self-relfection are invaluable no matter how serious or how insignficant one's problems...and readers can go at their own speed, as quickly or slowly as is comfortable for their situation. Jill has proved a tremendous publich service with her book.

Carolyn Abbott

I found this book to be beneficial for those who have depression. The book is easy to follow along and understand because it takes you step-by-step through the process of overcoming depression and workpages.

Dr. Pennisky

I have bipolar and wasn't unable to find help- until I read this book. This book was better than therapy because I could finally understand what doctors were trying to tell me.

Welcome to Need Help With my Depression!

Millions of people have some type of depression. Many of those people never successfully overcome depression or still experience symptoms of it while taking medication for it. This is advice why you may be experiencing symptoms. It comes from someone who has suffered from depression, overcame it, and now has a Master's degree in clinical psychology, and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in order to help other people overcome mental illness.

Whether you are taking medication for mental illness like Zoloft or have been diagnosed with depression such as bipolar, not addressing the root cause of your depression or anxiety puts you at greater risk of not overcoming it. Instead, symptoms of depression worsen.

Understanding how the brain works, you may come to realize that depression is all in how you have trained your brain to think. Let me try to briefly explain how some depression works. As humans take in information, neurons begin to communicate throughout the brain.

As events or information is stored in the brain, the mind tends to retrieve that information just the way it was stored. The mind is similar to a computer- the information put out depends on the information put in.

Later, when new information is added, the brain eventually creates a mesh or net of neurons about that information. Take for example riding a bike. Several factors come in to play with the first thing being your brain retrieves all the information remembered on how to balance, peddle, steer, and come to a stop. Similar to a computer, the more correct information put in, the more automatic accurate will be the output information.

How does this Relate to Depression?

Rewiring the brain to think differently about events and life can facilitate healing of painful memories and low self-esteem. When thoughts are eliminated or reformed, new connections between neurons have developed. Therefore, you gain more control over your depression as the brain has rewired to think more critically. This helps to eliminate depression. Once the bad or negative memories and thoughts that cause depression are changed, the mind is liberated.

rewiring

Without changing the memories and thoughts that cause feelings associated with depression, chronic stress becomes an issue. Chronic stress may influence the loss of neurons in the brain, particularly in the hippocampus area. What was once a normal function of the brain becomes dysfunctional, decreasing the quality of life. The good news is that research now shows new neurons can give birth through enriched learning environments and through exercise.

When Your Mind Is Clear, the Sun Shines All the Time is a valuable book because it can help you rewire your brain and slow down the death of brain cells by teaching a variety of cognitive thinking skills.

Exercising the mind through education, including a variety of cognitive thinking skills, is the key to putting the power of your own success for overcoming depression in your own hands. That is why this book has been highly recommended. Without certain education, you may continue to suffer with depression and not find the help you are in need of.
